iPad Settings Troubleshooting

WiFi Settings Issues
This section focuses on the WiFi Settings of your iPad. To learn more about WiFi Settings, see Apple support.
My iPad connects to my neighbor’s WiFi instead of mine.
Your iPad will connect to the strongest WiFi signal in the area. It will also only connect automatically to WiFi networks you have already connected to in the past so you’ll want to forget that network.
- To forget a network, open Settings and tap 'Wi-Fi'.
- Tap the blue info icon for the network you want to forget.
- Tap 'Forget This Network' and 'Forget' to confirm.
My iPad continuously connects to an open WiFi network close to my business.
iPads connect to the strongest Wi-Fi signal in an area. Turn on the Ask to Join Networks setting so you’ll know when the iPad wants to connect to a different network.
- Open Settings and tap 'Wi-Fi'.
- Forget any open networks the iPad has connected to.
- Scroll to the bottom and toggle 'Ask to Join Networks' on (green).

Bluetooth Settings Issues

How do I know if my Bluetooth card reader, scanner, or printer is connected?
Bluetooth allows accessories to be connected to the iPad wirelessly. In the iPad’s Bluetooth settings, each device will appear as “connected” or “not connected”.
- Make sure Bluetooth is turned on in the Settings app.
If it is off, tap Bluetooth and switch it on.
- Tap the name of your scanner or printer if it says "Not Connected".
- Wait to connect or re-pair your printer, scanner, or reader.
My card reader, scanner, or printer was connected but now it won't connect.
If you are having trouble with your Bluetooth device, sometimes disconnecting the device and repairing is the next solution.
- Go to the Settings app on your iPad.
- Tap the Bluetooth info icon for the Bluetooth device.
- Tap "Forget This Device" and then "OK" to confirm.
- Reconnect your printer, scanner, or reader.
I can't connect my card reader, scanner, or printer to another iPad in the store.
Bluetooth accessories can only be paired with one device at a time, so un-pair the accessory before connecting it to another device.
- Go to the Settings app on your iPad.
- Tap the Bluetooth info icon for the Bluetooth device.
- Tap "Forget This Device" and then "OK" to confirm.
- Connect your printer, scanner, or reader.
I connected a Bluetooth speaker, but it does not work when the Retail POS (S-Series) app is open.
Because Lightspeed Retail does not officially support Bluetooth speakers, we recommend connecting the speaker to a device that is not running the Retail POS (S-Series) app.
General Settings Issues
This section focuses on the General Settings of your iPad. To learn more about these settings, read through the iPad user guide.
How do I know if my iDynamo is connecting to the iPad?
Your iPad detects any accessory connected to it through the charging port and lets you know under the About tab in Settings.
- Open Settings, tap 'General', and then tap 'About'.
- Scroll through the list on the right and look for "iDynamo".
- Tap 'iDynamo' and then 'Find App for Accessory' to make sure it’s compatible.
‘Retail (S)’ should be listed as a compatible app.
I heard Lightspeed Retail works best with the latest iOS. What is it and how do I get it?
iOS is the iPad’s operating system. Apple periodically updates iOS to provide software upgrades, improve performance, and fix bugs. Learn more about iOS here.
Updating iOS can be a long process. Make sure the business is closed and you have ended your day in Lightspeed Retail before updating your iPad.
- Launch the Settings app.
- Tap 'General' on the left and 'Software Update' on the right.
- Tap 'Download & Install' and follow the prompts on screen.

My devices unpair from the iPad, leaving me to repair them constantly.
It’s likely that your iPad is going to “sleep” throughout the day. This sleep mode will turn off the connection between your iPad and Bluetooth enabled devices.
- To turn off Auto-Lock, open Settings and tap 'Display & Brightness'.
- Select 'Auto-Lock' and set to 'Never'.
Serverless Sync™ is not syncing my open checks between registers.
Most likely, one of your iPads is going to “sleep” throughout the day. This shuts off the connection between iPads. Turn off Auto-Lock to ensure proper syncing. Visit our Serverless Sync™ article to learn more about Serverless Sync™ best practices.
- To turn off 'Auto-Lock', open Settings and tap 'Display & Brightness'.
- Select 'Auto-Lock' and set to 'Never'.

The date / time on my iPad is wrong.
The date, time, and time zone affect what prints on receipts and the timestamps on BackOffice reporting.
- Open the Settings app on your iPad.
- Tap 'General' on the left and 'Date & Time' on the right.
- If connected to the internet, turn 'Set Automatically' on to automatically set the date, time, and time zone.
If the iPad is not connected to the internet, manually adjust the date, time, and time zone as needed.
- Verify that the date, time, and time zone are all correct.
If transactions post to BackOffice with the wrong date/time after performing the steps above, follow the steps here to update the BackOffice time zone setting.
The time on my iPad shows up without AM or PM.
It is because the 24-Hour Time setting is toggled on. Not to worry, the solution is easy.
- Open the Settings app on your iPad.
- Tap 'General' on the left and 'Date & Time' on the right.
- Turn off '24-Hour Time'.
My receipts print out with the wrong date/time.
The date and time on a receipt come directly from the iPad’s settings. Follow these instructions to correct the date and time on each iPad to fix the problem in no time.
Safari Settings Issues

I can't log in to BackOffice on my iPad and I know my password is correct.
There may just be an issue with the website data stored on your iPad. Try clearing your history to fix this.
- Open Settings and tap 'Safari'.
- Scroll down and tap 'Clear History and Website Data'.
- Tap 'Clear' to confirm. Then, try logging into BackOffice again.
I’m trying to enable QuickBooks in BackOffice but am not seeing the pop-up.
The iPad’s pop-up blocker must be enabled. Follow these steps to disable the pop-up block and try enabling QuickBooks again.
- Open Settings and tap 'Safari'.
- Toggle 'Block Pop-ups' off (not green).
Lightspeed Retail Settings Issues

The Retail POS (S-Series) ‘Integrated Hardware’ screen does not list my card reader or printer.
If your card reader or printer does not appear on the ‘Integrated Hardware’ screen in the Retail POS (S-Series) app after following the steps in its setup guide, try enabling Bluetooth and local network access for ‘Retail (S)’ in the Settings app.
- Follow the steps here to open the Retail POS (S-Series) app settings.
- Toggle ‘Bluetooth’ and ‘Local Network’ on.
- If the problem persists, find the troubleshooting guide for your specific card reader or printer here and follow the relevant steps to continue troubleshooting the issue.
My cashiers are being signed out of the register before they finish transactions.
If a specific auto signout setting is enabled, cashiers will be automatically signed out after an allotted amount of time. You can turn this off or change the time increment.
- Follow the steps here to open the Retail POS (S-Series) app settings.
- Turn 'Auto Sign Out User' (iOS) or 'Auto sign out after idle time' (Clover) off or change the time interval.
A black box appears when I try to scan a gift card barcode.
If you are unable to scan gift card barcodes with the camera on the iPad, it means the Retail POS (S-Series) app does not have permission to use the iPad camera. Enable camera access for the app to resolve the issue.
Before following the steps below, make sure you are using the latest supported version of the Retail POS (S-Series) app.
- In the Retail POS (S-Series) app, tap ‘Check Gift Card Balance’ on the Main Menu.
- Tap ‘Manual Card Entry’.
- Tap the camera icon.
- Follow the specific steps below that reflect the behavior of the Retail POS (S-Series) app.
- If prompted with ‘Lightspeed Would Like to Access the Camera’, follow steps 3a – 3b below.
