Running Sales in Lightspeed Pocket
Merchants who signed up for Lightspeed Retail before February 8, 2021, can run basic cash and credit sales directly from the Lightspeed Pocket app for iOS and Android devices by entering a total sale amount including tax. Transactions made in Pocket do not use your inventory but are linked to sales reporting. Follow along below to learn how to set up and run sales in Lightspeed Pocket.

Get Started
Download and install Lightspeed Pocket onto your iOS or Android device, create a Lightspeed Retail account or link to your existing account, and set up online payments to allow credit and debit card sales.
Only merchants who signed up for Lightspeed Retail before February 8, 2021, can run sales in the Lightspeed Pocket app. If you signed up for Lightspeed Retail after February 8, 2021, and want to process sales on mobile devices, use Lightspeed Pay instead.
Download and install the Lightspeed Pocket app on an iOS or Android device.
Open Lightspeed Pocket, then follow the steps here to sign into your existing Lightspeed Retail account.
Set up Online Payments to be able to accept credit and debit cards.

Online Payments Setup
Lightspeed Retail Business Owners can access the online payments setup flow by starting a new credit sale in the Lightspeed Pocket app. Submit your business and bank account information to get approved for processing credit payments for sales run in Lightspeed Pocket, emailed invoices, orders placed via a Lightspeed eCom (E-Series) webstore, and Pay by Link sales run in the Retail POS (S-Series) app for iOS.
This feature is only available to US Lightspeed Retail merchants on paid pricing packages. To upgrade to a paid account, click ‘Upgrade’ in BackOffice or at the register.
Online and mobile payments can be set up from Lightspeed Pocket, as shown below, or from BackOffice. You only need to sign up once using one of these methods. After signup and approval, you will be able to access all methods of online and mobile payment. Additional steps are required to accept credit payments in a Lightspeed eCom (E-Series) webstore.
Open the Lightspeed Pocket App and tap ‘+ New Sale’ from the Dashboard.
Don’t see ‘+ New Sale’? Only merchants with paid pricing packages who signed up for Lightspeed Retail before February 8, 2021, have the option to process mobile payments in the Pocket app. Upgrade to a paid Lightspeed Retail plan in BackOffice or at the register to be able to set up and run online and mobile payments.
Enter a sale amount of $0.50 or above, then tap ‘Credit’.

Tap ‘Join Card Payments Program’ after reviewing the payments information.
Only the Business Owner can complete this step and the following steps. If you see an error instead of this screen, confirm you are signed in as the Business Owner.
If prompted to enter credit card information after tapping ‘Credit’, online payments are already set up for your account. Learn how to run an optional test transaction here if you are signed up.
Follow the prompts to provide business details and the details for the bank account where you want to receive deposits.

Follow the steps here to enter the DBA that will appear on customer credit card statements.
The DBA, or ‘doing business as’ name, appears on customer credit card statements next to each online and mobile payment charge from your business.
By default, the DBA is set to the website entered in the ‘Business Details’ section (see step 4). If you did not enter a website and do not update your DBA, it will default to ‘ShopKeep’.
(Optional) Follow the steps here to enable payments for your Lightspeed eCom (E-Series) webstore.
After setting up Online Payments in Lightspeed Pocket, run an optional test transaction to confirm the setup was successful.
Once you begin processing credit payments in Lightspeed Pocket, you will receive a weekly email statement summarizing the online and mobile payments processed the previous week.
Run A Sale
Merchants who signed up for Lightspeed Retail before February 8, 2021 and have upgraded to a paid pricing package can run sales directly from the ‘Dashboard’ in Lightspeed Pocket. Enter the total value of the items a customer is purchasing including tax, tap ‘Cash’ or ‘Credit’, and finish up by sending an email receipt.
In BackOffice reporting, sales run in Lightspeed Pocket use ‘Custom amount’ for the item name, are not charged tax, are not assigned to a register shift, and appear as being performed by the Business Owner. The ‘Custom amount’ item cannot be edited or deleted, is assigned to a department and category called ‘general’, and does not have a supplier or quantity on hand.
To return a sale run in Lightspeed Pocket, you must use the Retail POS (S-Series) app to perform a manual return and tender it to a non-credit payment method. Credit sales run in Lightspeed Pocket cannot be refunded back to the card used in the original sale via either app. To request a refund for a credit sale run in Lightspeed Pocket, contact [email protected].
Cash Sales
From the ‘Dashboard’, tap ‘+ New Sale’.
Don’t see ‘+ New Sale’? Only merchants who signed up for Lightspeed Retail before February 8, 2021, have the option to process mobile payments in the Pocket app. Upgrade to a paid Lightspeed Retail plan in BackOffice or at the register to be able to set up and run online and mobile payments.
Enter the total price of the items the customer is purchasing plus tax, then tap 'Cash'.
Tax is not automatically added to Lightspeed Pocket sales. Tax must be calculated separately, added to the total sale amount, and manually tracked outside of Lightspeed Retail. Lightspeed Pocket sales will be counted as non-taxable on the Sales by Tax Rate report, and tax figures on other reports will not include tax from these sales.
Tap ‘New Sale’ to perform another sale, or tap ‘Go to Dashboard’ to return to the Dashboard.

Credit Sales

Credit sales run in Lightspeed Pocket cannot currently be refunded back to the card used in the original sale via the Lightspeed Pocket or Register apps or BackOffice. To request a refund for a credit sale run in Lightspeed Pocket, contact [email protected].
