Setting up the Smart Terminal (WisePOS E) with Lightspeed Payments
The BBPOS Smart Terminal (WisePOS E) is quick and easy to set up with Lightspeed Payments. The terminal can either be set up via your Wi-Fi network or via an ethernet cable plugged into the supplied dock. In either case, the terminal will need to be on the same network as your Retail POS (S-Series) account.
Note: It’s important to use the terminal supplied to you by Lightspeed, as terminals obtained from a third party may not be correctly configured for your account and could present a security risk.

- Open the back of the terminal by lifting up from the indentation at the bottom left-hand corner of the terminal.
- Insert the battery into the back of the terminal with the gold connectors aligned at the top of the device.
- Replace the back cover of the terminal.
- Plug the power cable into the port on the side of the terminal and connect the USB end to a powered USB port.
- For best results, we recommend plugging the cable into a dedicated charging block into a wall outlet. Upon first use, the terminal will need to charge for at least 4 hours.
Connecting the terminal to your network
Connecting the terminal via Ethernet
- Plug one end of the ethernet cable into your router and the other end into the ethernet port on the dock.
- Turn the terminal on by holding the power button on the right-hand side of the device until the screen turns on.
Your terminal will immediately connect to the internet and will remain charged through the dock. If you wish to remove the terminal from the dock, you’ll need to make sure the terminal is connected to your Wi-Fi network. You must connect the terminal to the same network accessed by Retail POS.
Connecting the terminal via Wi-Fi
You must connect your terminal to a WPA-Personal- or WPA2-Personal-encrypted Wi-Fi network. Open Wi-Fi networks that are not password-protected or enterprise networks are not supported. You must connect the terminal to the same network accessed by Retail POS. To connect the terminal to your Wi-Fi network:
- Turn on the terminal by holding the power button on the right side of the device.
- After it finishes booting, tap the Connect To Wifi button in the middle of the screen.
- In the Setup menu, set your Language, then Country, and confirm your Network again.
- You'll be brought to the Terminal Pairing Code screen. Continue to the next section to connect the terminal to Retail POS.
Connecting the terminal to Retail POS
- (Optional) Scan the QR code found on the Lightspeed hardware box and follow the prompts to select your device and your Lightspeed product Series.
- In the Retail POS (S-Series) app, open the Main Menu and select Integrated Hardware.
- Select the Terminal tab at the top.
- Tap Pair Lightspeed Payments Terminal.
- Enter the three-word activation code exactly as it appears on the terminal's screen (including hyphens) in the Terminal pairing code field.
- Enter a name for your terminal in the Terminal name field.
- Tap Next.
A confirmation message will appear after a successful reader pairing and the terminal will return to the default screen. You are now ready to accept card payments.
Note: For first-time setups, the terminal may need to update before it can be successfully paired to your Retail POS account. If an update is required, the terminal’s screen will state that an update is being downloaded and the initial pairing attempt will fail. Once the update has been successfully downloaded, restart the terminal and attempt the pairing process again.
