Moby/5500 Credit Card Reader Setup

The Ingenico Moby/5500 Credit Card Reader connects wirelessly to the Lightspeed Retail POS (S-Series) app for iOS to process EMV, swiped, and contactless credit payments.

The Moby 5500 Credit card reader ships with the parts listed below.

Charging the reader

The Moby/5500 operates on battery power and needs to be charged to function. A battery indicator is provided on the side of the reader, indicating the charge level of the battery. When successfully connected to a charger, the indicator will display a charging status.

  1. Plug the included USB-C cable into the charging port of the Moby/5500.

  2. Plug the other end of the USB cable into a wall charger (sold separately) or computer USB port.
  3. If using a wall charger, plug it into a power outlet.
  4. Wait for the battery indicator light to turn on.

  5. If this is a first time setup, charge the Moby/5500 for at least 3 hours before using it.

Connecting to Lightspeed

With the Moby/5500 charged, open the Lightspeed Retail POS (S-Series) app to connect and finish setting up the reader. The pairing wizard will guide you through these steps within the app.

  1. In the Retail POS app, open the Main Menu and tap 'Get Updates from BackOffice,' then select 'Get Updates.'
  2. Tap 'Integrated Hardware.'
  3. Select 'Card readers.'
  4. Tap ‘Begin Pairing’ in the ‘Using a Moby/5500 reader?’ panel.

  5. Press the button on the side of the reader to turn on the device. If the reader is not yet paired, you will see a blue flashing light.

  6. Tap 'Next.'
  7. Enter the last 8 digits of the device identifier below the QR code found on the back of the reader.

  8. Tap 'Next.'
  9. Tap ‘Pair’ on the alert, then promptly push the button on the side of the reader.

  10. Confirm the connection to Lightspeed POS by matching the sequence of lights on the front of your reader to the sequence played in the Lightspeed Retail POS app. Select 'Confirm.'

  11. Confirm that pairing was successful by verifying that a blue checkmark appears next to the reader’s name in the app.

Accepting credit cards

The Moby/5500 supports multiple types of credit payments. Follow the steps below to learn the basics of accepting EMV chip cards, swiped credit cards, and contactless payments.

EMV

If a customer has a card with a chip in it, run an EMV transaction.

  1. In the Retail POS (S-Series) app, ring up a sale and tap 'Credit'.
  2. Insert the card into the top of the Moby/5500 chip end first with the chip facing the front of the reader.

  3. When prompted in the app, remove the card.
  4. Continue closing the sale.

Swipe

When a customer has a card with only a magnetic stripe or if you are not able to accept EMV, process a swiped credit card sale.

  1. In the Retail POS (S-Series) app, ring up a sale and tap 'Credit'.
  2. With the card stripe facing the back of the reader, slide the card from left to right through the top slot on the Moby/5500.
  3. Wait for payment to be approved and continue closing the sale.

Contactless

For customers who wish to use a contactless payment method, the Moby/5500 supports Apple Pay, Google Pay, contactless credit cards, and other types of NFC payments.

  1. In the Retail POS (S-Series) app, ring up a sale and tap 'Credit'.
  2. Customer holds their card or device near the contactless symbol on the Moby/5500.

  3. Cashier waits for payment to be approved and continues closing the sale.

Turn the Reader Off and On

Turn the Moby/5500 off to conserve battery power when it will not be used for an extended period of time. When the reader is needed again, turn it back on.

If left in an idle state for an extended period of time, the Moby/5500 will power itself off to conserve battery life.

  1. To turn the Moby/5500 off, press the side button until the indicator light turns off.
