When you do something all the time, small changes in how you do it can have a big impact. While much of our development efforts are focused on larger features, we also look for opportunities to make seemingly minor updates that we think can have an outsized impact on improving processes. Enter the recent update to the Bird’s Eye View in BackOffice.

Our goals for this page are to give you a concise, holistic picture of your business as soon as you log in and to save you time when doing what you do most often. To achieve this goal, we’ve brought in additional high-level metrics about core areas of your business and added links from those metrics to some of your most frequently visited pages.

ShopKeep Bird's Eye View in BackOffice

Those frequently visited pages were the key drivers of change, as we analyzed traffic patterns in the BackOffice to find out where you were spending the most time. For example, 21% of merchants go to the Items List after logging in and the majority of those people create a new item. As a result, we added direct links to both the Items List and the Create New Item page. We repeated this process with the other metrics and links, streamlining many of the most common workflows.

By reducing the number of clicks it takes to accomplish these everyday tasks from as many as five down to one, we estimate that, in aggregate, ShopKeep merchants can save over seven thousand hours per month!

We hope you appreciate this time-saving update, along with a little bit of the insight into how and why it happened. If you have any feedback, we’d love to hear it, so feel free to leave a comment or email us at [email protected].
