Following hot on the heels of our recent Open Checks product update, we’re happy to announce another great feature to support restaurants and bars using ShopKeep.

We call it Tip Later – and coupled with Open Checks, it is going to allow a lot more small businesses to really take advantage of all that ShopKeep has to offer.

For all restaurants and bars that offer table service, the ability to ring up a sale, save the check, and take the payment after the meal is an integral expectation of their point of sale system. With the introduction of Open Checks, ShopKeep has now fulfilled that core need.

So What is Tip Later?

Tip Later builds naturally on our open check functionality to provide flexibility about how and when you ask your customers to tip. Essentially it means that waiters can now take cards after a meal, authorize the customer’s card, and bring the receipt back to the table for the tip.

So How Can You Set This Up?

The first step is to head into your BackOffice and access your register settings:

Once there, you’ll want to select the drop-down menu marked ‘Tips and Signature’ and then select the setting ‘Tips and signature on paper receipt’. You can see an example below:

It’s that simple to set up.  If you return to your ShopKeep register and ring up a normal transaction with a credit card, you will be confronted with the screen below – letting you know that the card has been authorized. If you’re operating table service in your establishment, you can simply click ‘Adjust Tip Later’. This will automatically print out a receipt that you can take to the customer’s table.

If you haven’t named the check already, you’ll be prompted to save the check and give it a name. This will allow you to easily retrieve the check from your ‘saved checks’ area once the customer has filled out the receipt.  You can quickly and easily update the tip information, and then print a final receipt for your records.

We hope that you enjoy using our new open checks and tip later functionality in your restaurant or bar. Let us know what you think of the improvements in the comments below!
