At Counter Culture, we believe that innovative small business owners are the engine of our national economy and the lifeblood of our local communities.
We want to do everything we can to help them succeed and grow. In honor of this mission, we’ve decided to launch the Small Biz, Big Ideas Contest, which will award six innovative brick and mortar businesses with a total of $15,000 in grants.
So, if you’re a local, Main Street entrepreneur, and you have a Big Idea on how to improve your product or business, share it with us now in our Small Biz, Big Ideas Contest.
We want to get you $10,000 closer to making that idea a reality. For full details of the competition, simply click on the link below to head over to our Facebook page.
Need a little inspiration?
Here are some examples to get your creative juices flowing!
Teaffee
David and Meno Fernandez are two brothers who recently started out on their very first retail adventure with a specialty coffee and tea shop in Brooklyn, New York. In NYC’s crowded coffee market, they knew they’d need to do something radical to stand out – enter Teaffee, a heady blend of tea and coffee, which is as kooky and as delicious as it sounds.
We all know word of mouth is the holy grail of small business marketing. And whether you love the taste of Teaffee or prefer to stick with the good ol’ latte, the boys from Teaffee have definitely given their customers something to talk about.
Spin Laundry Lounge
We’ve all been at the Laundromat, waiting for the spin cycle to finish, bored out of our minds. Well, Portland resident Morgan Gary experienced that pain throughout her college years and always thought she could make the laundromat a better place to spend some time.
After her MBA in sustainable business she decided to take action, creating Spin Laundry Lounge – an amazing hybrid business that combines an eco-friendly laundromat and wash’n’fold service, with a bar and cafe. It’s a potent mix that offers convenience to customers and a diversified, multi-revenue stream business for Morgan. Now that’s a Small Business, Big Idea.
Zoey’s Yogurt Bar
Bill Matoney has been involved in the restaurant business for over 40 years. When he was starting his latest venture, a ‘build your own’ yogurt bar experience in Philadelphia, he knew he wasn’t the only frozen yogurt game in town. He knew he’d have to do something to make their experience stand out.
That’s why he installed a series of iPads across his three locations. The iPads are locked to his counters and he has pre-loaded each with a range of apps, so his customers (and his customer’s kids) can have something to play on while they enjoyed their desserts! A big investment maybe, but a sure fire way to get local kid’s even more excited about a trip for some delicious froyo!
