Former Borderfree CEO Michael DeSimone joins company’s executive team to scale the company

NEW YORK – November 2, 2015ShopKeep, the cloud-based technology and business management solution for more than 20,000 small businesses, today announced the appointment of Michael DeSimone as the company’s new Chief Operating Officer effective on November 2nd, 2015. The former Borderfree CEO will report to ShopKeep President and CEO Norm Merritt and will oversee the company’s day to day operations and strategic planning as ShopKeep continues to scale its business. DeSimone’s appointment comes on the heels of two other additions to ShopKeep’s executive team — John Baule as CFO and Andrew Gorrin as CMO — and signals the company’s continued growth and momentum as it heads towards a future IPO.

DeSimone has more than 25 years of experience working within the financial services and technology industry. As CEO and President of Borderfree, he was responsible for the overall strategic direction of the company and successfully led their transformation from an online currency conversion service, to a provider of global ecommerce solutions for major retailers, including Williams Sonoma and J Crew. Under DeSimone’s leadership Borderfree grew dramatically. The company went public in March 2014 and was sold to Pitney Bowes in June of this year. Prior to working at Borderfree, DeSimone held senior roles in sales, operations and product development at E4X, Travelex, Citibank and Thomas Cook Financial Services.

“Over the past year ShopKeep has grown exponentially and it’s important for us to be strategic about how we continue to operate and scale the company,” said ShopKeep CEO and President, Norm Merritt. “Mike’s extensive experience in operations, as well as his deep understanding of the market, will be incredibly important to us as we work to introduce new services that benefit our merchants. I am excited to work closely with Mike to chart ShopKeep’s continued path forward, and further our mission of helping small businesses take back Main Street.”

“Having grown up in my family’s restaurant business, ShopKeep’s approach of offering a simple cloud-based point-of-sale solution to independent merchants immediately resonated with me personally” said DeSimone. “Looking ahead, I see a massive opportunity for ShopKeep to expand in both the range of services it provides and the number and type of merchants that can benefit from our platform. I’m looking forward to working with Norm and the other leaders to help the company reach its full growth potential in the most efficient way possible.”

DeSimone was listed on SmartCEO’s Future 50 list in April 2015, and has been previously named an Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
