The EMV Liability Shift starts tomorrow and here’s what you should know

There has been a lot of talk about the EMV Liability Shift in the past few months and tomorrow it will become a reality. With that fact in mind, we wanted to update you again on the status of the changes that have been taking place and what will happen moving forward. At ShopKeep, we have spent considerable effort on EMV preparedness. We have been selling an EMV-capable reader (that also accepts magstripe and Apple Pay transactions) since December 2014, educating you throughout the year on what EMV means for your business (including detailed FAQs), and are offering our EMV Liability Shift Promise to cover you in case of EMV-related chargebacks. So what does this mean for you? We will be rolling out EMV support for all our merchants slowly in order to make sure that you have the smoothest transition possible. We are doing it this way in order to minimize any disruption to your daily routines and properly mitigate the risk inherent with any new payment technology. As a reminder, EMV adoption is not a legal requirement, and immediate EMV adoption is not necessary for all ShopKeep merchants, particularly for those with lower fraud rates and lower ticket items. Stay tuned for updates from us on the rollout process and keep yourself educated on the subject!
